About this course

‘Jookin’ or ‘Jook Joint’ blues refers to the group of blues idiom dances that originated in Jook Joints in the Mississippi Delta. Jook Joints were small, often ramshackle buildings where African American workers would go to drink, gamble, play music… and dance! Due to the limited space in such joints dancing was often in place with a focus on solo body movement and rhythmic steps as opposed to travelling steps. In these classes we will introduce you to some simple Jook Joint moves to get your hips shaking. It’s time to add style and attitude to your dancing!
