About this course

Jook Joint blues refers to the group of blues idiom dances that originated in Jook Joints in the Mississippi Delta. Jook Joints were small buildings where African American workers would go to drink, gamble, play music and dance! Due to limited space dancing was often in place with a focus on solo body movement and rhythmic steps as opposed to travelling steps. This course includes almost 3 hours worth of Jookin’ material, including classic hip moves such as the Fishtail, Four Corners, Funky Butt and The Grind, plus foot variations and a couple of our own creations! For all the moves you will first learn how to dance them solo, and then partner them up.
